Early Life and Background

Born as Christopher Bahng on October 3, 1997, in Seoul, South Korea, Bang Chan moved to Sydney, Australia, at a young age. Growing up in a multicultural environment, he developed a passion for music and performance. He attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, where he studied ballet and modern dance, showcasing his early dedication to the arts. His diverse upbringing and exposure to various musical styles laid the foundation for his future career in the K-pop industry. 

Trainee Years and Formation of 3RACHA

At the age of 13, Bang Chan was selected by JYP Entertainment through an audition in Australia. He relocated to South Korea to begin his training, enduring one of the longest trainee periods in the company's history, spanning seven years. During this time, he honed his skills in singing, dancing, and music production. In 2016, he formed the pre-debut hip-hop unit 3RACHA with fellow trainees Changbin and Han, adopting the stage name CB97. The trio released their first mixtape, "J:/2017/mixtape," on SoundCloud, gaining attention for their self-produced tracks and lyrical prowess. 

Debut and Rise with Stray Kids

In 2017, Bang Chan participated in the reality survival show "Stray Kids," which led to the formation of the boy group of the same name. As the leader, he played a pivotal role in selecting the group's members and shaping their musical direction. Stray Kids officially debuted on March 25, 2018, with the extended play "I Am NOT," featuring the title track "District 9." Bang Chan's leadership, combined with his contributions as a vocalist, rapper, and producer, has been instrumental in the group's success.

Global Recognition and Recent Activities

Stray Kids have achieved significant international acclaim, with Bang Chan at the forefront of their global endeavors.In 2024, the group released their album "HOP," featuring the single "Walking on Water," which garnered millions of views within hours of release.They also embarked on the "DominATE World Tour," performing in major cities worldwide, including a notable show at Citi Field in New York.Bang Chan's charismatic stage presence and musical talents have contributed to the group's expanding global fanbase.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Despite his demanding schedule, Bang Chan remains connected to fans through his weekly live broadcast, "Chan's Room," where he shares music recommendations and personal anecdotes. He is also known for his philanthropic efforts, participating in JYP Entertainment's "Every Dream Matters!" campaign, which supports terminally ill children's wishes. In April 2025, Stray Kids donated 800 million won to aid residents affected by wildfires in South Korea, reflecting Bang Chan's commitment to social responsibility.
